AS DEADLINE APPROACHES, SENIORS ENCOURAGED TO APPLY FOR RENT REBATE

(9/1/2009) NEW HAVEN- Tuesday, September 15, 2009 is the annual deadline for applying to the State Renters’ Tax Relief Program. This program provides a reimbursement of a portion of an elderly or disabled person’s 2008 rent and utilities. People who are aged 65 or above, or who are disabled, may be eligible. Surviving spouses of individuals who died while eligible may also be able to take advantage of this reimbursement regardless of the widow’s age.

Eligible residents who live in New Haven should call 946-8550 to learn more about qualifications and to begin the application process. To apply for this program, residents must make an appointment and complete the proper forms with a representative of the Department of Elderly Services.
